Patient safety, comfort and ability to function call upon the efforts of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Oncology social work continues to develop as an integral component of comprehensive cancer care. Core service areas and competencies have been defined for oncology social work and, as a result, a variety of patient-centred roles have evolved.
